Colonoscopy & EGD prep wizard
Enter your procedure date and time and we will build a personalised hour-by-hour schedule — when to stop iron, when to start the diet, when to drink each prep dose, and when to stop fluids. Then send it to yourself on WhatsApp so you have it on your phone the day-of.
This is the appointment time on your booking slip — not the arrival time.
This schedule uses IMCC’s standard split-dose PEG protocol. If your doctor gave you a different schedule (PicoPrep, single morning dose, special medication holds), follow their instructions — not this one.
Days before
Stop iron supplements & certain medications
Thursday 30 Apr · 09:00 am
Stop iron tablets, multivitamins containing iron, and bismuth (Pepto-Bismol). If you take blood thinners (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, NOACs) or diabetes medication, ask your doctor for specific instructions — do not stop these on your own.
Start the low-residue diet
Monday 4 May · 12:00 pm
Avoid: nuts, seeds, popcorn, corn, raw vegetables, fruits with skins or seeds (strawberries, grapes), whole grains, beans, and salads. OK: white bread, white rice, well-cooked skinless chicken or fish, eggs, plain yogurt, cheese, peeled cooked potatoes.
Day before procedure
Clear liquids only — no solid food
Wednesday 6 May · 07:00 am
Allowed: water, clear broth (chicken or vegetable), apple juice, white grape juice, plain tea or coffee (no milk), clear sports drinks (NOT red, purple or orange — these can mimic blood). Avoid: milk, yoghurt, juices with pulp, alcohol.
First dose of bowel prep — drink slowly over 1 hour
Wednesday 6 May · 06:00 pm
Mix the prep sachet with water as instructed. Drink one full glass every 15 minutes. Cold prep tastes better — chill it in the fridge. Sucking on a lemon between glasses helps. Stay close to a bathroom — first bowel movement usually comes within 1–2 hours.
Day of procedure
Second dose of bowel prep — drink slowly over 1 hour
Thursday 7 May · 04:00 am
This is the split-dose: completing the prep this morning gives the cleanest possible view of the colon. Skipping or delaying this step is the #1 cause of repeat colonoscopies — please do not skip it even if last night was difficult.
Stop ALL fluids — nothing by mouth from now
Thursday 7 May · 07:00 am
No water, gum, mints, or hard candy. The anaesthesia team needs an empty stomach to keep you safe. If you take morning blood-pressure medication, take it with the smallest possible sip of water — confirm with your doctor first.
Arrive at the clinic
Thursday 7 May · 08:00 am
Arrive 30 minutes early to complete check-in and meet the anaesthesia team. Wear loose clothing. Do not drive yourself home — bring a family member or arrange a ride. The sedation lasts in your system for several hours.
Colonoscopy — your appointment time
Thursday 7 May · 09:00 am
The procedure itself takes 20–40 minutes. Plan to be at the clinic for 2–3 hours total (check-in, sedation, recovery). You will be sleepy and may not remember the discussion — bring a family member to hear the doctor’s findings.
